Oh, there you are!

29 September 2011

Ambowife is sick.

And not very concerned about giving the sniffles and dry hacking cough to me!
First job up for the day?

39M - Man Cold, convinced him to stay at home.
92F - Dehydrated and the nursing home openly stated they had no-one qualified to perform IV re-hydration.
Assist another crew on a job including one of us riding in their car for an extra set of hands.
91F - Jaundice.
??M - IP, left with them to sort out his home address.
25M - IP no Police so we took him to the little hospital that mostly handles drunks where he blew the breathalyser to 0.342.
84M - Tachycardic, Tachyponea, decreased LOC and nearing end of life.
34M - Who danced with some cops (resisted arrest) and needed an elbow cleared.
23F - Inner city hotel, fainted, cold response, she got better all by herself and cancelled us.
56M - Chest pain. My 12 lead was clear but he was under current treatment for CA and was mildly febrile, enough boxes to transport for further assessment.

See you at the big One.

Overtime again.

I thought I had missed out as it was nearly an hour past sign-on but the Overtime Fairy rang and gave me a day shift at my old station.
The weather was miserable and there was very little work going on judging by the lack of radio traffic.
85F - Pre-syncope, declined transport.
80F - Facial tingling or numbness, She thought it may have been a TIA but my money would be of Bell's Palsy or such.
83M - Functionality decrease. aka Age.
86F - Accidental activation of home alert system. SNR

And that was it

See you at the big One.

15 Jobs on the Data Terminal!

At the end of our last night shift (Reminder to new readers my shift is12hrs, 2 days, 2 nights & 5 off).
8 case sheets in the folder!

So just about half our work we either where;
A minute off and cancelled,
A crew cleared that was closer,
A higher priority dropped in or
It was nothing.

31M - At a Medical Centre with chest pain, their ECG analysed a possible AMI, our Lifepak with nearly 4X the sensitivity said it wasn't. Random chest lead elevation & Hx strengthened the diagnosis. Tx anyway.
51M - Assault with chest wall injuries. Took him to the little inner city hospital where there were some new faces on deck.
Teenage F's x 2 - IP and vomiting. Much to our surprise the brother of one was there and he was not pissed and was making arrangements to get them home. Gave him some emisis bags and left him to it.
??? - Someone wanting an ambulance called from a payphone and hung up. When we arrived there was a lady in the booth who had an issue about or with the Dept of Housing and was trying to call them (@2300hrs?) but didn't want us.
57F - Sudden onset Tachycardia. No Hx, no cause, normal folk in the city for a wedding tomorrow, we collected them from their motel room.
51M - Hospital to Hospital transfer! Yes Ol' Mate from just up the page. Seems the new staff were more than happy to do a little work and pop in a chest tube after they confirmed the 3 # ribs and the pneumothorax but didn't have the wards for appropriate care of the pt, hence the transfer. Not that other staff here couldn't do the same work but they will seriously whinge and bitch an moan and even put in a complaint about the appropriateness of the pt. A very nice change.
34M - Suicidal intent, OD on anti-convulsants, searched, detained and sectioned under Mental Health.
55F - # Left R/U falling over on the dance floor at 0430 and I'm sorry but the clothes that she was in, would have looked trashy on a <30y/o,,,,, oh it was just sad.

See you at the big One.

So what's the 1st night shift like?

Yep! Still lovin' it!

And my new partner is now looking for the rafter I must hang from when back on station because he has now witnessed that I don't sleep at all.
And if his Mum is reading this (he gave her the address to read about our jobs) Hello Mum!

5M - with abrasion on his back after a fall >6/24 ago. You need a licence to drive, not breed. 'No pt's Mum, I don't really think he has to see a Dr about those they'll heal by themselves'.
36F - Been sending text messages to her ?carer who's in another state on holiday, they thought she needed an ambulance but I couldn't find them at the address given. UTL.
62M - From big hospital to small for some rehab.
21F - Poly-pharmacy OD. Had to use our power of search and detention to get her to hospital.
45M - ?Fitting? Third party caller, UTL.
51M - Syncope with LOC and still felt off even twenty minutes later and being supine and all obs looking great. Transported for investigation.
50M - Very minor scalp wound that didn't look that recent. Found by the Transit Police and cleared by me.

See you at the big One.

Second day back at work,

And still lovin' it!

Assist another crew with the extrication of a stroke pt.
72F - Call from the Cops for a delusional pt.
64M - CA pt with an EXTREME anxiety attack needed sedation it was that bad.
34F - SOB, 34/40 gestation, Hx of DVTs.
86F - STEMI that was developing as we watched, very unusual atypical pain presentation, in her armpits???
53F - Hypo, she was completely soaked with sweat but responded well to IV 10% Glucose.

The last two were really good job that pleased us both with positive outcomes.

See you at the big One.

A New Partner.

Back off the holidays and out with a new partner, clinically junior but that doesn't matter as I was at his level once and I think we'll work well together.

61M - IP, a new regular who says he can't keep any food down.
78M - Chest pain and again it doesn't look cardiac either.
88F - Fall and amnesic with perseverant questioning. # orbit of left eye and the memory returned so looks like just some concussion.
86M - Near faint.
66M - IDDM poorly managed, febrile and cancer.
80F Cellulitis.
66M from above from one hospital to another.

See you at the big One.

Thank Goodness I'm back at work!

Notice I didn't say the more common other G@d word?
I would have had the blog picked up on some many wrong search engines, clever to think of that.

I really enjoyed my break but you know what I love more, my job.

Scored an OT shift on Sunday night at my home station with one of my peer officers, how good is that!

62F - Very IP and fallen at home. Had a chin lac and because of the booze we had to take precautions that otherwise wouldn't be needed.
81F - Mechanical fall with minor injuries that we baby sat for a day shift crew so they could go home.
36F - Opiate OD on Bupenorphine, transported as she was able to refuse Narcan.
31M - Probable seizure, recent diagnosis and medicated.
35M - Chest pain nothing looked cardiac related but transported for further tests.
21F - SOB sounded like a croup cough, maybe Whooping cough.

And that was it!

What a sweet way to get back into it.

See you at the big One.

Second Week Report.

Not that different to the first really.

Ambowifes birthday came, we had agreed to get each other slippers only so while she knew what was in the parcel I kept moving it around the house to appear in different locations.

We went for a drive and discovered a new eatery about 60k's south of Sydney and while my hamburger was $25 it was worth every cent as was her meal.

The view from the cafe.
Who's this hairy thug?

My good lady Ambowife

Rode into the City to conduct some business,,,,
Did several more rides, watched more online content of my favourite shows.
I allowed myself to ruminate, reflect and dwell (day dreamed to less creative people)

I have still not yet received a reply from the hospital about the STEMI that wasn't so Lauren and Anon I haven't forgotten about you.
Nor you Wade I'm happy to whip up a colour copy of the Question Book with your name on the front and any other identifier you want but I'm concerned that if I release pdf copies that they will get spread around and shared and that reduces my market. Sounds a little mercenary but sorry.

I have had no luck obtaining large diaphragms for my Sprague Rappaport Stethoscope. There appears to be no retailer in Australia who carries or will order just these alone and the few US based suppliers don't deliver outside the US. So the search will continue I don't want to buy a littmann's just because they're the most easiest to buy parts for, I like my stethoscope.

And that's been the second week of holidays.

See you at the big One.

Holiday Report.

So one week down on the holidays.
What have I been up to?

Have caught up to all the TV shows I watch online as well as viewed 30 odd episodes of Mythbusters, from the very begininng as well as some of the original NCIS.

Been and seen a printer about having my question book made in a simpler format and en mass that will reduce the cost and effort I expend to manufacture it at home. The down side is that it will be of a reduced quality and durability. I have seen samples of the style and work and it will be printed on recycled paper locally but I'll end up with something like three years stock going by the amount that sell now!!!

I've been to the dentist and had a tooth removed and am currently wearing a plate while I wait for the site to settle and an appointment with a specialist to have a post and prosthetic implant. A very strange sentation but my speech has not been altered.

Taken my paperwork to our tax agent.

Replaced the washers in four taps (faucets).

Ordered some more ear piece thingy's for use with the work portable radio's.

Tried to source more diaphragms for my stethoscope, it's not a Littmann's which seem to be as common as Toyota's.

Purchased a very large map of the USA so Ambowife can start sticking pins in it for sights we want to see or people that have offered accommodation, etc, for our trip there in two years?? for my long service.
Ambowife is right into Digital Scrapbooking and most of the market seems to live in the States and she has made many good friends there and when she mentioned it in a chat session almost a year ago we were flooded with offers and reminders to 'You come and visit us now when you here'.

One of my God Daughters is coming over for a visit in two weeks and we'll spend a day together.

And not as much sleep as I would like.
Well that's pretty much the first week, two more to go.

See you at the big One, eventually!
